The DIG Mail Art Exhibition
@ The Miami Township Branch Library
The DIG: Gem City Art Excavation is a mail art exhibition made up of work by artists who live and/ or work within a 30-mile radius of Dayton, OH. Mail art, otherwise known as postal art or correspondence art began in the late 50s with artist Ray Johnson and the New York Correspondence school. The DIG utilizes this egalitarian form breaking down the boundaries of the hierarchical art establishment by creating a system in which all local emerging and established artists are invited to participate. This installation celebrates the diversity and talents of the Dayton art community with works on canvas, paper, sculpture, textiles, dress making and ceramics.
